Before contacting check if you can access the help you need quicker. Pharmacy First can give you advice on a range of conditions. The Minor Injuries Unit at Barnsley District General can help with minor injuries. You will find information about benefits, housing and social services at the bottom of this page.

In an emergency

If you have any of these symptoms below DO NOT CONTACT US. Ring 999 or 111 immediately. Or go to Accident and Emergency immediately.

Chest pain or discomfort
Stroke or mini stroke
Severe shortness of breath
Falls and collapse
Seizures
Feeling very unwell
Severe pain

If you want an appointment within 24 hours (Monday to Friday)

This would be for urgent help for a new health issue or a long term condition that has suddenly got worse.

Telephone us on 01226 282535, Monday to Friday, when we are open

If you want an appointment within 1 to 3 days (Monday to Friday)

This would be for less urgent help for a new health issue or a long term condition that has changed.

Routine appointments or queries

To request a routine appointment in the next 7 days for things like ongoing problems
or a sick (fit) note for those in employment:

When you get in touch, we'll ask what you need help with. We will use the information you give us to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or health professional to help you.

Medication Requests

Repeat and non-repeat medication requests. You can use the NHS App or your NHS account or drop off at reception. Over 70s and the housebound can telephone 01226 282535 after 10 am.

However you choose to contact us we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text

Appointments by phone, video call or by text can be more flexible and often means the doctor or nurse can help you sooner.

Tips for using the online form (online consultation)

  • Describe your symptoms: Explain what the problem is, how and when it started, which specific part of your body is affected, and any changes you’ve noticed.
  • Share how the issue impacts your daily life.
  • Let us know what you believe might be causing the problem, any worries you have about your symptoms, and what outcome or help you are hoping for from us.

Note: For safety reasons, urgent medical requests cannot always be accepted via our online system. For something urgent, contact us by Telephone on 01226 282535.

Contact Us Online: we aim to get back to you with the next step within 24 hours (Monday to Friday).

To cancel your appointment:

Call i-HEART Barnsley on 01226 242419. The i-HEART phoneline is open on: Monday to Friday, 4pm to 6pm weekends and bank holidays, 8am to 9.30am.

We also offer extended access appointments in the practice. Should you wish to access these appointments only contact the surgery on 01226 282535 to book.

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

  • If there's a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond.
  • If you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text.
  • If you need an interpreter.
  • If you have any other access or communication needs.

If you are housebound and need an appointment, we will do a home visit. We will phone you first to understand what you need. To request a home visit, it's helpful if you phone the practice as soon after 8am as possible on 01226 282535.

  • For urgent social care needs or if there is a breakdown in carer support, please contact Social Services first on 01226 773300. If you are unable to get the help you need, you can then call us.
  • For non-urgent social care needs, please contact Social Services on 01226 773300 and persist until you are able to speak with a member of their team.
